Dow Day: Aris Game

Mary Sullivan and I played the Dow Day game on the Aris game app. We first tried to do the Robots game but we didn't understand it at all and it wasn't working very well. Then we switched to the Dow Day game. This game made us journalists during the Dow napalm protests at UW-Madison in 1967. We had go to each checkpoint to complete "quests" but there was a way to play the game by using "quick travel" and we could play it indoors. Each of the spots we went in the game gave history of the locations and buildings during the protests. It gave different opinions of the history so it was unbiased and that was kind of cool. For example, at Inghram Hall, it showed a protest outside of it and a student sit-in inside. It used to be called Commerce Hall and it showed real pictures of the time of the protest. There were also videos, such as the police department showing up at the protest at Ingraham.

We didn't like this game at all. For one it is freezing outside, which is why we switched to the "quick travel" mode. We were confused about the point of this game and how it was "won," if that was even the point. As the game went on, it was pretty cool to watch the videos of these protests and see it all really happening. At one point, though, there were simply no more quests, so we assumed the game was over.
