Television Commercials

For this week's online homework, I watched "Television Commercials" on the Prelinger Archives website. This video shows examples of old TV commercials. It was cool to see these old commercials and see the types of products which were being advertised and the ways they were marketed. In many ways the marketing strategies which were used in these ads are still being used today. This film relates well to the information society and the control revolution. The TV producers had total control over what information was being shown to you on the TV programs. These TV programs were available because companies were willing to pay money to air their commercials. These commercials attempted to control the viewers knowledge of the products they were advertising and make the viewer view them as good products which they should buy. This video is useful for students to view because it is interesting to know that not a ton has changed in the television commercial industry in the entire time which commercials have aired.
