This was an interesting cartoon produced in 1956. This was a response to the Suez Crisis that was occurring in the middle east. I think that the animation was very interesting and the notion that was being animated was as well. It should a martian traveling to earth in search of a usable resource to fuel his city on Mars. What he finds is that oil has become the most used resource in the United States of America. This causes him to find out more information about the resource. What he finds out is that not only does oil supply all of the cars in the country but it also sparks competition. This is the important notion the American Petroleum Institute was going for when they released the short animation. I think that this is very relevant to students at this time. Competition is something that makes the world go round. It was interesting to see that when the martian brought this news back to Mars all of the aliens went out to find their own oil and make it in their world. They were not going to wait for permission from the boss or leader they were going to forge their own path forward.

Destination Earth reminded me of a lot of post WWII thought where pure capitalism protects us above all else. I also think its cool to see how the view of oil has changed since this cartoon was made. Here it is the answer to all of your problems, nowadays it seems like oil is the cause of many of our problems.
It's also interesting to see the way society is taught to view the use of petroleum by the source. The use of animation possibly suggests that the American Petroleum Institute also aimed to teach children their intended view of petroleum at a young age.
