Macbook

The Macbook is Apple's version of a laptop and debuted in May of 2006. The earliest article that went into detail about the Macbook was from the New York Times, in March 2006, and titled "Apple Laptop has looks and Brains". This is also the earliest article I could find out of Proquest, JStor, and Project Muse. The first thing I learned was that Apple already had a laptop called a PowerBook, but was transitioning to the Macbook. The article talks about how it's not usually news when a new laptop comes out, but this is a different story. This makes sense because when I tried looking it up on JStor and Project Muse the earliest information about it was from Fall of 2007, over a year after the original Macbook came out. The author David Pogue called it "beautiful, thin and light, ... and crammed with features". After reading the article you would think he was trying to sell the laptop to you for how much he was praising it. Many other articles I found using Proquest also praised the new laptop and how it was using an Intel processor, a big switch from the previously used IBM processor in previous Apple products. The Intel processor makes the computer more powerful and faster, similar to a car with more horsepower.The original Macbook line has been discontinued, but newer adaptations of the Macbook line, for example the Macbook Air, are still being produced and updated. This is similar to how the iPod Classic is discontinued, but other versions, for example the iPod Touch, are still being produced and updated.The term Macbook has  been used to describe Apple's laptops since the first time it was introduced in 2006 and hasn't changed meaning.
