Thanksgiving Interview

For this blog assignment I interviewed my mom. She works at Kimberly-Clark which is a corporation that makes Kleenex tissue, Cottonelle toilet paper, Scott paper towel, Huggies diapers, and many other consumer products. The computer was the information technology that she said she uses the most in her job. Each employee receives a laptop from the company. The employees are connected within the building via a secure network and she can take her computer to meetings and focus groups. The employees have means of accessing the secure network offsite so they can do work via the computer at home too. Before the network there were shared computers, and there was training for the computers, such as computer based training for the systems that needed to be used. She said it wasn't difficult because you could learn as you go and the other coworkers were learning with you. The computer definitely made her job more productive. For example, employees can take notes on their computers while listening to other people, and typing is a lot faster than writing. File keeping is electronic also, and this is more efficient. There are good and bad aspects of the computer within the job. Communication is a little bit of a negative because there is less interaction between people. There is more electronic communication than face-to-face communication. However, a lot more work can get done and you can learn a lot more via the computer. This is better for the company overall.
