Mom Interview

My mom is a sales representative for Anne McGilvray company. She travels around Illinois, assisting customers (mostly gift store, book store and boutique owners) in purchasing goods and stocking their shelves with current, trending products. When I asked my mother what the most important information technology for her job was, she immediately said her laptop. She uses it at home as well as away at customer appointments to enter and download customer orders to vendors. She also uses it to send messages, catalogs, price sheets and sales materials from vendors to customers. In this way she plays her part as the liaison between vendors and customers.

My mom said she first learned how to use a laptop before her job in sales, when she would do volunteer work at my grammar school. She was also familiar with my dad's work laptop, so she felt comfortable entering a job that necessitated her ease of use. She said that within weeks of starting her job, however, she became exponentially more proficient at using her laptop, learning new skills and tricks every day.

She says that her laptop makes her job much easier because if it were not for digital orders, she would have tons of paperwork and that all of her orders would be processed far less efficiently. She says that she enjoys her constant use of a laptop in her job because of the ease of research and communication that support her sales.

This response is more or less what I expected to hear from my mom. She sometimes works remotely from home, and everything she does involves her laptop in some way. I relate to this because I need my laptop as well to do my job as a student every day! Like my  mom mentioned, I can't imagine doing all of my homework, papers, studying and research on paper without the internet.
